Google Research reported an early feasibility study of AI-PPG-ACC-HTN, a system that uses smartwatch photoplethysmography and accelerometry data to detect signs of hypertension without cuff calibration. At five US sites, 196 participants were screened with the system and compared with 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for initial screening and confirmatory testing. Google said the system is exploratory research, not a standalone diagnosis or a replacement for standard clinical arm cuffs. The study does not indicate an existing or upcoming commercial product feature.
