Hugging Face says Phonon ranks first for intelligibility in German and Spanish and among the top three in every language evaluated on its Open TTS Leaderboard. The company’s closer look at the text-to-speech model, published two weeks after its launch, also covers its five supported languages, demos, and integrations. Phonon 31m is licensed under Apache 2.0 and can be used commercially for free. Hugging Face says its other Phonon models use CC BY-NC and are free for non-commercial projects; commercial pricing for those models is based on the number of users, not the amount of speech generated. The post also describes the ptts inference framework and the Transformers implementation.
