Shopify opens its catalog up to more AI agents

Shopify announced Tuesday that shoppers will soon be able to configure any AI agent to browse and purchase from over a billion catalog listings without a partnership integration. Customers connect an agent to their Shop account and check out using Shop Pay within the conversation, with orders routed back to the Shop app. Shoppers can set rules such as budget limits or fast shipping preferences, but must approve each purchase.

Why it matters: The expansion moves agent shopping beyond individual partnership integrations, while requiring approval for each purchase gives customers a defined point of control over transactions.

Pluto Security raises $42M as AI gives enterprise security teams a new headache

Pluto Security emerged from stealth with $42 million in funding to develop software that monitors enterprise AI tools, components, apps, and agents. CEO and co-founder Shahar Bahat says about 60% of risks detected across its customers involve tools vibe-coded by non-developers, with finance departments leading. The company says its software can intervene during agent activity to enforce security policies; Bahat reports more than 30 enterprise customers and over $2 million in annual recurring revenue since sales began in April.

The next hurdle for AI agents: getting websites to let them in

TechCrunch reports that personal AI agents such as Meta's Muse are often blocked by websites when trying to place orders or book tickets for users. Amazon has explicitly blocked Muse from browsing and buying its products, and Walmart, Delta Air Lines, Yelp, and eBay have similar restrictions, partly because traditional anti-bot systems misclassify agents. Meta, Walmart, Stripe, Sierra, and others have begun developing an open standard for agent-to-agent communication in e-commerce to distinguish helpful bots acting for users from malicious ones.
