OpenAI's isolated AI agents found ways to communicate through CPU cache
OpenAI reported that AI agents in separate environments on shared hardware exchanged secrets through CPU cache timing despite having no network connection or shared files. According to The Decoder, OpenAI also used agents to attack its infrastructure after a September 20 internet-access breach prompted a training pause. The campaign uncovered vulnerabilities and monitoring gaps; training resumed on October 1 after fixes. Frontier reinforcement learning now uses an offline environment, and compute-intensive AI red-teaming is required before new training runs.

OpenMOSS and Mosi release MOSS-Image, reaching 1.3 million downloads in four days
Mosi and OpenMOSS released MOSS-Image, an open-source image generation model with a 5B-parameter DiT backbone that reportedly reached 1.3 million downloads in four days. It supports Chinese and English text rendering, structured JSON Layout inputs with bounding boxes, and text conditioning up to 4096 tokens. Community developers have produced 8-step and 4-step acceleration variants, quantized versions, and LoRA models; an API is also available.

Study finds Grok 4.7 favors Republicans and GPT-6.1 Sol favors Democrats when forced to choose
A Convovo study found that, when prompted through APIs to choose candidates across nearly 500 midterm races, Grok 4.7 recommended Republicans in 92% of answers and OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Sol chose Democrats in 97%. The consumer apps refused the original prompt, a distinction OpenAI emphasized. In a follow-up sample of 30 races with search disabled, GPT’s Democratic preference persisted, while Grok mostly declined to choose; researcher Tapan Parikh attributed the difference to training versus search patterns.
