What happened

Flask author Armin Ronacher asked the same question on X, Bluesky, and Mastodon: “Do you still hand-write more than 20% of your code?” Answering “no” means you’ve already handed more than 80% of your code over to AI. X: 4,326 votes; 12.7% answered “yes” Bluesky: 91 people; 26.4% answered “yes” Mastodon: 544 votes; 75.2% answered “yes” https://twitter.com/mitsuhiko/status/2114318715705548812

The story so far

Bao Yu compared responses to Armin Ronacher’s poll asking whether people still handwrite more than 20% of their code, with “yes” answers ranging from 12.7% on X to 75.2% on Mastodon. The same question drew 4,326 votes on X, 91 on Bluesky and 544 on Mastodon; 26.4% of Bluesky respondents answered “yes.” Bao Yu interpreted a “no” answer as meaning respondents had handed more than 80% of their code over to AI. The question itself asked about the share of code handwritten, rather than explicitly asking how much was generated by AI.
