The ByteDance Seed team found that the DeepSeek-V4 series shows periodic fluctuations in long-context retrieval depending on where information appears, with a cycle of every 4 tokens. In the 128K needle-in-a-haystack test, moving the same information to a different position changed accuracy by as much as 40.2 percentage points.
