Nintendo Switch 2 apparently jailbroken with an old game and OpenAI’s Codex
Someone hacked the Switch 2 by using an old game and AI
- Who
- Sammy Hajhamid (pepsipu)
- What
- jailbroke the Nintendo Switch 2 using the SmileBASIC 4 game and help from OpenAI Codex
What happened
The Nintendo Switch 2 has apparently been jailbroken using the software-only, tethered ns2jb exploit, which Sammy Hajhamid, aka pepsipu, says OpenAI’s Codex helped create. It must run from a game each time the console turns on and reportedly requires SmileBASIC 4, though another modder disputes that requirement. A modder has demonstrated custom Mario Kart World characters, but the jailbreak remains complex and its full impact unclear.

Sammy Hajhamid, known as pepsipu, says OpenAI’s Codex helped create ns2jb, a software-only exploit that apparently jailbreaks the Nintendo Switch 2; a modder has demonstrated custom characters in Mario Kart World. The jailbreak remains complex and tethered, meaning users must run it from a game every time they turn on the console. The Verge reports that the exploit requires SmileBASIC 4, a game that lets users program and play games, though another modder says that title is “not strictly needed.”
