What happened

Anthropic posted a paper on GitHub the same day OpenAI announced AI had overturned the “exponential time hypothesis” (ETH). The paper says an internal research version of Claude found the core algorithm on October 16, using 14M output tokens with no human input; Anthropic researchers then worked with Claude to improve the presentation.
