Airbnb launched AI search in its fall update this week. CEO Brian Chesky says chatbots are not suited to e-commerce, and the company will explore multiplayer AI interfaces over the next three to six months. He believes the industry lacks an operating system truly built for AI: AI should run at the kernel level. Airbnb plans to make its app more agentic and connect it to other agents through MCP.
Anthropic's Thariq Shihipar discusses the next phase of Claude Code on the Latent Space podcast, including Ask User Question, artifacts as persistent generative interfaces, multi-agent collaboration through Claude Tag and Projects, and Claude Mods for customizing the harness.
The GitHub Copilot app has introduced canvas, a full-stack mini-app that runs inside the app without a browser shell, can communicate in both directions with the Copilot agent, and can call third-party APIs or run code locally. The company argues that chat is a general-purpose fallback, while a canvas can be a better fit when users have a specific task. For example, a SQLite canvas can operate on a database directly instead of having an agent repeatedly spend tokens on actions such as “stage and commit.”
Simon Willison disputes the claim that “MCP was never a good idea,” arguing that it overlooks MCP's value today.
The latest GitHub Podcast examines five popular AI claims. AI-generated code still needs to be read and owned, with review effort scaled to risk; Skills and MCP address different needs, with Skills packaging team expertise and MCP standardizing connections to tools and data; and RAG is not dead, since it can coexist with agents, Skills, and MCP in one workflow. The episode also discusses judging AI fluency in hiring and how fine-tuning needs can signal codebase maintainability problems.
Anthropic has introduced Claude Tag, letting Claude join Slack as a team member with access to designated channels and tools; users can delegate tasks by mentioning it. Karpathy calls this the third major redesign of the LLM interface: first came visiting websites, then downloading apps, and now an autonomous, persistent, asynchronous entity with organization-wide tools and context working alongside human teams. He says this requires deep engineering across tools, integrations, compute environments, memory, and security, but is achievable.
