What happened
AWS announced the general availability of Web Answer on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, a managed Gateway tool that returns synthesized answers with citations from current web sources. The post compares it with Web Search, which returns ranked results for an agent’s own model to process, and walks through adding Web Answer to a Gateway and calling it from a Strands agent. It is available in us-east-1 and costs $10 per 1,000 tool calls.
Why it matters
Web Answer combines web retrieval, answer synthesis, and citations in one AgentCore tool call, while the comparison with Web Search clarifies when builders may want raw results instead.
