In this post (Part 2), you will learn how each layer works and what it looks like in working code.

What happened

AWS authors show how the open source Deep Insight data analysis solution applies four layers of context engineering using the Strands Agents SDK and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. The walkthrough covers context isolation across agents, prompt rules, filesystem based tools and notes, and independent verification safeguards. In the reference implementation, a combined write and execute tool reduces tokens added by each script by about 95 percent, while loading skills on demand shrinks the system prompt by about 97 percent.

Why it matters

The Deep Insight walkthrough shows how four context engineering layers work together, with implementation details and reported token reductions for script output and on-demand skill loading.

The story so far

AWS Machine Learning Blog authors demonstrated four layers of context engineering in Deep Insight, an open-source data analysis solution built with the Strands Agents SDK and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. The practices cover isolating context across agents, setting prompt rules, using filesystem-based tools and notes, and adding independent verification safeguards. In the reference implementation, a combined write-and-execute tool reduces the tokens added by each script by about 95 percent. Loading skills on demand reduces the system prompt by about 97 percent.
