Computer built an interactive globe of Earth's 4.5 billion years from 14 open datasets, with its own engine moving 258 plates across 109 paleo-elevation maps.
What happened
Aravind Srinivas shares @AskPerplexity’s demonstration of an interactive globe that Computer built covering Earth’s 4.5 billion years using 14 open datasets, with its own engine moving 258 plates across 109 paleo-elevation maps. Users can drag the timeline or type a city to see where it sat 400 million years ago. https://deeptime.pplx.app/
Why it matters
The example illustrates how open datasets can be combined into an interactive exploration of geological history, connecting plate movements and past elevations with searches for present-day cities.

The story so far
Perplexity demonstrated an interactive globe that it said its Computer system built to explore Earth’s 4.5 billion years of history. Available at deeptime.pplx.app, the globe lets users drag a timeline or enter a city to see where it was located 400 million years ago. In the demonstration shared by Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity said Computer used 14 open datasets and built its own engine to move 258 tectonic plates across 109 paleo-elevation maps.
