Opening the workshop

The chronicle's plate of the Difference Engine workshop: brass columns in a workshop with tall windows

From the picture, into the room.

The plate guided the art direction. The scene itself is built from independent 3D geometry that you can approach, look around and operate.

Chronicle · An explorable scene

History as a space you can explore.

In 1822, Charles Babbage proposed the Difference Engine. Taking the existing illustration as its art reference, this scene builds an explorable workshop from a 3D frame, number wheels, drive gears and a crank.

It computes n²: starting from A = 0, B = 1, C = 2, each turn performs A ← A + B, then B ← B + C. The registers, the number wheels and the table always agree. The gears and drive animation illustrate the principle; they do not reproduce the full historical mechanism.

The scene is an artistic reconstruction. 1822 marks the engine's proposal; the complete workshop and machine do not depict objects that existed that year.
